Our society is obsessively focused on taboos and deficiencies, bad news and disease. But every movement has a counter movement, and obesity is no exception. With the proliferation of material available advising sound health and fitness practices, so emerges the Fat Man Unleashed, a blog that, if not advocates, at least mitigates obesity. A post that deserves attention is “7 Reasons You’re Fat and Why You’ll Probably Stay Fat”. Of course, it’s open to interpretation. You can look at the post as a challenge to action. But the way it is worded takes advantage of the fears and insecurities that we all have. Though the Fat Man Unleashed naturally smacks of a masculine focus, most of the responders to the 7 Reasons post are females. Also, they obviously makes money on the weight loss industry. If a website is actually meant to help people through their psychological issues, then isn’t that against the business model of the pharmaceutical industry?
